Live from New Delhi …

It’s been a while since I mentioned that we’ve decided to move to India, at least for the next 5 months. Part of the reason, I haven’t written is because I was very preoccupied with the move. The list of things to accomplish was long and very tedious. The worst part of moving was probably saying goodbye to all of our family and friends but … we’re finally in New Delhi!

We’ve been here for just a few days and it’s already been a bit of a love-hate relationship for my wife because there’s just so much that is so incredibly different here. Driving on the wrong side of the road through undescribeable traffic is one small thing to get used to. Not having a sidewalk to walk on is another. The biggest annoyance I experienced yesterday was as my wife and I were walking around Connaught Place with my daughter, in her stroller, not a single person walked by without staring at us and trying to catch a glimpse of what we were rolling around. it was as if 99% of the people on the street had never seen people walking around with a stroller and a baby in the stroller.

I finally got Wifi up and running today, partly because the Netgear WGT624 Wifi AP I bought doesn’t come with a 220V adapter. How ridiculous is that in today’s day? Even my little Jabra 250 bluetooth headset comes with a charger that supports 110v to 220v. Anyway, I had to go get a 220v to 110v converter for the Netgear.

As I’m still very jetlagged, I will continue posting more about the M2I adventure over the coming days and include some pictures where possible. I’ll throw in pictures of some of the apartments we’ve seen as possible places to rent.

I’ll also throw in my experience installed and running Ubuntu 6.10 on the ThinkPad T6036
