Google Analytics Works!

Google appears to have drastically underestimated the demand for the service and is now playing catch up in providing the necessary infrastructure to support Analytics. They’re not taking any new members until the infrastructure upgrades are done.

I checked my Google Analytics account on Sunday and I finally had some reports to view. This is by far the best breakdown of website statistics I’ve seen from Commercial or Free software packages. Last night I was talking to someone about Google Analytics and showing them some stats and they were amazed at the depth of information in Google Analytics. They were even more surprised at the fact that it is free and they are paying a hefty sum of $ to a commerical software vendor for an web site statistics package that doesn’t offer half the reporting facilities.

I think the product has a huge amount of potential and in it’s current state, it offers a HUGE benefit over the usual web statistics packages. I find the reports to be very in-depth, fairly easy to use and understand.

It would be nice if they made the map interactive so that it’s easier to zoom into where a visitor was visiting your site from. I’d also like to see an easier way of managing the Google Adwords integration. Right now, it’s a little confusing.

Overall, now that it has started working, I think it’s another great product offered for free by Google. I am curious to see how Google Analytics might work on an Intranet web server …

The Terms of Service, however, will probably leave many businesses, and some individuals a little upset at the overall freedom with which Google can use your trademarks, etc. See the blog posting here for more info…
