TechCrunch » Outlook 12 to have RSS Integration

Michael Arrington of TechCrunch posted that Microsoft would be integrating RSS into Outlook 12. Smart! one of my biggest gripes about RSS readers is that I can’t easily forward a posting to someone without having to open it in my browser and then sending the link to the intended recipient. It’s great that MS finally gets it

Well, I don’t use Outlook at home, work or anywhere. I use Novell’s Evolution client for Linux. It has its quirks but it works with MS Exchange on the backend, hence, I use it to connect to my work email servers. This posting is not necessarily applauding MS, though, the general Windows population will benefit from this announcement, this posting is about how Evolution started having built in RSS support but when going from version 1.4 to 2.0, Ximian ( now owned by Novell ) decided to remove RSS integration from their email client. Rather than moving forward and having better RSS integration, they conceded the space to third party RSS readers. I wish Novell would not only put RSS support back into Evolution, but I hope they expand on the feature set and allow classifications, tagging, categorization of RSS feeds and items within the feed and also give us the ability to email a RSS item in som capacity.
