Motorola, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone will be announcing plans to setup an independent foundation focused on standardizing Linux for the mobile market. Details around funding haven’t yet been released but the goal here would be to develop a standard specification along with APIs for deevelopers to use when building applications for handsets. Hopefully, this will lead to a “write once, run many places” situation for mobile applications.
